Details
This study focuses on the tours made by dancers from the Maryinsky Theatre from St. Petersburg to Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Berlin in the early summers of 1908–1910. The star of the group was Anna Pavlova, for whom these performances were a stepping-stone to an international career. Laakkonen examines the local dance scene in these cities and places the reception of the Imperial Russian Ballet in a larger framework of music, theatre and the visual arts.
